Of the Beaten Path: Lakeland Villages Tour
Pälkäne – Kuhmoinen – Kangasala
When exploring the destinations off the beaten path, the journey takes you to Laitikkala’s Makukylä. It’s definitely worth your time to head to this gem of Pirkanmaa Region in Pälkäne, and bring along a large shopping basket. Rönnvik Winery offers visitors an idyllic environment for an enjoyable day, both on ordinary days and on special occasions. Suttinen Farm shop, located less than a kilometre away, has shelves filled with fresh berries and vegetables from their own fields as well as food products from local small producers. The farm offers activities for the whole family, and especially the corn maze inspires everyone to a game of hide and seek in late summer days. Continuing the journey, the farm shop Kesänmaku skilfully prepares meat produce from its own farm to take home with you. Makukylä also offers accommodation, even for larger family celebrations. Check out Makukylä’s flavourful summer events before starting your trip to Laitikkala.
Pihlajakoski village is a lively summer destination in Kuhmoinen, situated on the west bank of Lake Päijänne. Summer restaurant Wonkamies and the village shop are the centre of the village, set in a traditional landscape. Delicacies, a summer terrace, and live music are a perfect combination for a summer day. The warehouses converted into a gallery, at the harbour offer culture and nourishment to visitors. You can find accommodation for both smaller and larger groups in BBQ Rent. In the small village, you get to enjoy moments of genuine experiences at their best.
Animal lovers should head to Raudanmaa in Kangasala, which is only a half-hour drive from Tampere. Children’s farm Pikkupiha is an animal attraction for both children and adults that is open all year round. The farm is home to a variety of animals, both domestic and bit more exotic. The nearby Café Mäyrä serves refreshments to satisfy both small or large appetites. Just a five-minute drive away, you will find the Aholaita sheep farm’s farm shop and accommodation in the old main building. Next door, Villa Ponsa offers unique glamping tent and the summer café serves visitors on weekends. In the nearby animal attraction Onnelan Eläimet you can, for example, go on a forest trek walking horses.
