Get speed from the sledding hill
Sledding is a classic winter activity! The sledding hill at the Sorola outdoor area is considered one of the best in Pirkanmaa. After sliding down the hill, it’s nice to enjoy snacks at the nearby lean-to shelter. Asemantie 170, 36200, Kangasala
To the forest!
Did you know that the popular OAC skinbased skis are a product from Kangasala? They were inspired by the beautiful ridge terrain. Skinbased skis are lighter than regular snowshoes for moving in the terrain and on ice, and thanks to the grip skin on the bottom, they hold well on ascents. They also allow for a smoother descent compared to regular snowshoes. With these, you can access trails and places that would otherwise be difficult to experience! The easiest way to try skinbased skis is on a guided tour, but you can also rent the equipment.
Head to the lean-to shelter
Winter hiking is an unforgettable experience. The silence of the forest, the crunch of snow underfoot, frost-adorned trees… You can hike a longer route or head to the nearest lean-to shelter. At the lean-tos, you can grill sausages and enjoy the tranquility of the winter scenery. Remember to bring your own firewood! Some lean-tos are also suitable for overnight stays under the starry sky. Even experienced hikers can learn a lot about nature with the help of a local nature guide. Or how does hiking in woolen socks sound?

Take a swim
Winter swimming provides a refreshing and healthy experience in Kangasala. In recent years, the popularity of winter swimming has only increased, and there are several places where you can take a dip. Conveniently located in Kangasala’s center is the Vesaniemi sauna. Ice skating on natural ice has become a popular family activity! You can start with regular skates and the skating skills you learned in childhood. Everyone can progress at their own pace, making it a great activity for the whole family. Saarikylät hosts the first ice skating track in Pirkanmaa, which also has a skate rental service. After the trip, enjoy delicious treats at Heikin Leivän café!

On Horseback
Spending time with a horse is not only beneficial exercise but also good for mental well-being. Kangasala is the most horse-friendly municipality in Finland, so you can spend a winter day, for example, taking a private riding lesson. If your skill level allows, you can also go trail riding.
